Second Lebanon War 2006
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009How do you think won the second Lebanon war in 2006, and why?
Please, hold those who are fond of meaningless, but very important-sounding generalities as "There are no winners in a war" and similar nonsense. This is nonsense, Unforsakenme. War creates peace, then peace is impossible without war. In war, opponents of weeks or months to resolve the problems they could not solve the decades of negotiations. And if the conditions of this peace seems unfair to the defeated – Vae victis.
Becki, Definitely Hizb Alla won the war, but they paid a heavy price in civilian casualties, Hizb Alla played clean, they do not target civilians, criminal unit in the states Zi0nist State "IBS" targeted civilians and schools with children of concentration (ask me for links). Your first answer Miss Sarah got it right, she deserves best answer.

2006 Lebanon War
$118 The 2006 Lebanon War, also called the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah War and known in Lebanon as the July War and in Israel as the Second Lebanon War was a 34-day military conflict in Lebanon and northern Israel. The principal parties were Hezbollah paramilitary forces and the Israeli military. The conflict started on 12 July 2006, and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect in the morning on 14 August 2006, though it formally ended on 8 September 2006 when Israel lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon. The conflict began when Hezbollah militants fired rockets at Israeli border towns as a diversion for an anti- tank missile attack on two armored Humvees patrolling the Israeli side of the border fence. Of the seven Israeli soldiers in the two jeeps, two were wounded, five were killed, and the bodies of two of the dead were taken to Lebanon. Five more were killed in a failed Israeli rescue attempt. |

The War on Lebanon
$12.77 Israel's 34-day bombardment of Lebanon in the summer of 2006--in which more than 1,000 Lebanese civilians lost their lives--is one of the most tragic events to take place in the Middle East in this century. It was unleashed in the context of the continued Israeli assault on the Palestinians, particularly in Gaza, as well as the US effort to bring democracy and redraw the map of the Middle East from Afghanistan to Iraq and perhaps to Iran. What explains Hezbollah's capture of two Israeli soldiers and the scale of Israel's retaliation? Why did the US reject an early ceasefire? And where will it all lead? These and other vital questions are addressed in this collection of essays by internationally respected scholars and experts from around the world who examine the ethical, legal and strategic issues of the conflict, and analyze the consequences facing the region and the world in the wake of the Israeli invasion. |

International Reactions To The 2006 Lebanon War: 2006 Lebanon War, Uni
$62.07 The top UN official in Lebanon said Hezbollah?s action escalates the already tense situation along the Blue Line and is an act of very dangerous proportions, in a statement. Kofi Annan demanded Hezbollah free the two captured Israeli soldiers. He has sent a three man party to the Middle East to urge countries to show restraint. Jan Egeland, a top United Nations humanitarian official, said that Israeli response is in violation of international law. He was equally critical of Hezbollah and Hamas for abducting Israeli soldiers. He also said that those who had seized Israeli soldiers and fired rockets into Israel from southern Lebanon bore their share of the blame. Egeland also criticized Hezbollah for using the civilian population as cover, telling the BBC, I also clearly see that Hezbollah is trying to blend into the civilian population in too many places and they bear also a heavy responsibility for this. They do not seem to care that they really inflict a lot of suffering on their own population.UN Secretary General Kofi Annan: What is most urgently needed is an immediate cessation of hostilities for three vital reasons. |

Inside Lebanon
$9.75 This prescient and timely book documents Noam Chomsky's visit to Lebanon, in May 2006, to lecture on U.S. imperialism and the imminent crises facing the Middle East-- two months before Israel orchestrated major military campaigns against Lebanon and Palestine. During his visit, he met with political leaders-- including those of Hizbullah-- toured refugee camps, and inspected a former Israeli prison and torture compound.Inside Lebanon describes Chomsky's journey and situates it within the tragically altered context of Lebanon and Palestine before and after the war of 2006. Chomsky's essays provide a framework for understanding the role of U.S. politics, power, and policies in these conflicts by examining how the United States wages war and imposes world domination while presenting itself as the righteous protector of democracy. Ironically, U.S. efforts at imperial control generate conflict and crises within the region while undermining democracy.Inside Lebanon includes essays and photographs by Carol Chomsky, Irene L. Gendizier, Assaf Kfoury, Jennifer Loewenstein, Hanady Salman, Rasha Salti, and Fawwaz Traboulsi and provides an analysis of the social-political conditions of people in Lebanon, Gaza, and refugee camps. It situates Israeli's attacks and the position of Hizbullah and Hamas in this conflict while at the same time providing a record of events during the war, linking the conflicts on the ground to the global order. |

Lebanon
$12.97 Historic Lebanon is best known for its role in the Revolutionary War. It was the home of rebel governor Jonathan Trumbull and William Williams, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Museums and other sites that tell the story of Connecticut's important contributions to the patriot cause surround Lebanon's mile-long town green, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located thirty miles east of Hartford, Lebanon was first settled in the 1690s and incorporated in 1700, and until 1804 included the present town of Columbia. While most residents now commute out of town to work, Lebanon remains primarily rural, striving to preserve its agricultural roots. This book tells the story of the people, places, and events that make Lebanon a town to celebrate. |

Lebanon
$13.48 With a new introduction by the author, a seminal study of Lebanon's past, present, and future. With the West's economic and security interests increasingly at stake in the Middle East, it is impossible to ignore Lebanon—a nation in all ways divided and tormented by the interplay between the West and the Arab world. Sandra Mackey delineates the multifarious culture that is Lebanon; carefully stripping away the complex stigmas of Lebanese politics, she brings each component into focus, priming readers on the conflicts between Sunni and Shia, Maronites and Druze, Christian and Muslim, Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Lebanon and Palestine, and Syria and Lebanon.Covering Lebanon's history through the civil war of 1975-89, and with a new introduction on recent developments, Mackey lays the groundwork needed to comprehend this often ill-understood country—offering insight into its role as the gateway between West and East, and bringing clarity of focus to the schisms that serve to divide and define Lebanon. |

Israel's War on Hezbollah in Lebanon and Its Consequences
$102.66 pUp to date through the events of October 2006, this book assesses the causes and consequences of the impact of the recent Middle East war. The authors describe the popular basis of Hezbollah in Lebanon among the Shiites, but also its relation to the country's other religious communities and political forces. They analyze the regional roles of Syria, Iran, and Hamas, as well as the politics of the United States and Europe.brThe 33-Day War dissects the strategic and political background behind recent actions taken by Israel, the impact of Israel's incursion into Lebanon and the effects on Lebanon's population, and the consequences of the war on Israel's polity and society. Throughout the years, Lebanon has confirmed its stance as Israel's Vietnam: the last war provoked the most serious political earthquake that Israel ever experienced since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. |

The Lessons of Lebanon: The Economics of War and Development
$138.95 DIVSince 1945, over 200 intrastate conflicts have taken place in countries that achieved independence from colonial rule after the Second World War. The case of Lebanon offers a striking illustration of these interlocking influences on projects of national economic development. The persistently sectarian nature of the country's political institutions, the relatively poor quality of governance, and the major civil war that engulfed the country from 1975 to 1990, together define not only the context in which the achievements and failures of Lebanese development must be assessed, but also the continuing challenges that it must face in the era of globalization. This book gives an in-depth analysis of Lebanese economic development during the second half of the twentieth century with special emphasis on the civil war and its aftermath. Makdisi offers a definitive assessment of the principal phases of national development since Lebanese independence in the 1940s, and a study of those conditions requisite for sustainable development for Lebanon, as for many other developing countries.br/divDIVIntroduction * The Period Preceeding the Civil War: Relative Economic Stability Growth, Socio-Economic Gaps and Underlying Political Instability * The Political Environment * Economic Performance: Quantitative Aspects * Socio-Economic Development: Qualitative Gaps * A Summary Overview of Development Until 1975 * Lebanon on the Threshold of Civil War * The War Period, 1975-1990: Resiliency Versus Fragmentation * Introduction: The Phases of the Civil War * On the Causes and Duration of the Civil War: Economic Versus Noneconomic Factors * The Political/Military Environment and the Constraints in National Economic Performance: A Summary View * Economic and Financial Performance: Impact of the War and the National Response * Reflections on the War Period * The Attempted Reconciliation The Taif Accord * The Post War Period: Aspirations vs. Reality * Political Background, Growth and @a^ffffgÿ¾Úx |

Lebanon
$12.98 A newly translated collection of poetry - in a bilingual edition - by Francophone writer Nadia Tuéni, including more than forty selected poems, together with articles on Tuéni's work. This book comprises both Christophe Ippolito and Paul B. Kelley's never-before translated Sentimental Archives of a War in Lebanon and Sam Hazo's English translation of Lebanon: Twenty Poems for One Love, both by Nadia Tuéni. The languages of Rimbaud, Lautréamont and surrealist poetry have had a decisive influence on Tuéni's work. But she also owes a great debt on the Arabic side to the Lebanese avant-garde poets who, in turn, influenced by surrealism contributed to what has been called "a revolution of poetic language." Her work merges with the poetic and political landscape of her country. Like many Lebanese writers, Tuéni was active in political circles, particularly after the war in 1967. This book tells of the suffering - memories of an abandoned garden fading away - and of a poet at the confluence of two cultures: Western and Middle Eastern. |

The Jews Of Lebanon: Between Coexistence And Conflict
$42.5 This is the first book to tell the story of the Jews of Lebanon in the twentieth century. It challenges the prevailing view that Jews everywhere in the Middle East were second-class citizens, and were persecuted after the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. The Jews of Lebanon were just one of Lebanon's 23 minorities with the same rights and privileges, and subject to the same political tensions. The author discusses the Jewish presence in Lebanon under Ottoman Rule; Lebanese Jews under the French mandate; Lebanese Jewish identity after the establishment of the State of Israel; the increase of the community through Syrian refugees; the Jews' position in the first civil war; their involvement in the ex filtration of Syrian Jews; the beginning of their exodus after the 1967 War; the virtual extinction of the Jewish community as a result of the prolonged 1975 second civil war and the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon; and finally the community's memory of their Lebanese past. |

The Lebanon War
$57.98 In April of 1975, Lebanon, the tranquil Middle Eastern country called the Switzerland of the Orient, exploded into a violent conflict that lasted almost two decades. This book explores the convoluted politics and forces within Lebanon and the Near East that made the atmosphere in that tiny republic highly charged, thus inhibiting conflict resolution. This comprehensive study describes the strategies, battles, and conferences that kept Lebanon aflame, despite the best efforts of all concerned parties to terminate the bloodshed. Abraham looks at Lebanon from the inside-out, highlighting the conflicting politics of Lebanese leaders, the failure of the "democratic left" to take over the state, and the underlying problem of the PLO's presence in the country. |

The Routine of War: How One Northern Israeli Community Coped During the Second Lebanon War
$14.24 The people who are interviewed in this book live on Kibbutz Gesher Haziv in the Western Galilee of Israel, as does the author. This kibbutz is just a few kilometers south of the Lebanese border. During the Second Lebanon War, which lasted just 33 days, dozen of katyusha rockets rained down on Kibbutz Gesher Haziv. The families refused to move and exemplified the unwavering spirit of the Israeli people as they faced an unceasing barrage of missiles. |

Lebanon (creation Of The Modern Middle East)
$17.7 A small slice of land wedged on the edge of Asia, Lebanon sits precariously on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. To the west lies Europe, the seat of Christianity and Western culture; to the east lies the Arab world, the heart of Islam. An Arab nation with a government led by Christians since the late 1940s, Lebanon's place on the world map has allowed it to bridge the two worlds, but often at a stiff price. After years of civil war that began in 1976, Lebanon had started to rebuild. Very briefly, the country enjoyed a golden moment of peace, but tensions kept simmering. In 2006, eight Israeli soldiers were killed by Hezbollah, Lebanon's Shiite militia, and in 2007, several political leaders were assassinated during this country's fledgling attempts to achieve stability in a region dominated by turmoil. |

Remember Me to Lebanon
$17.98 Here is a collection of telling, often luminous stories, about the lives of Lebanese women in America. Evelyn Shakir crafts tales that are rich in history and cultural detail, setting her stories in different eras, from the 1960s to the present and carrying us back, on occasion, to the turn of the twentieth century. Each in their own way, Shakir's first- and second-generation women work either to reclaim their Lebanese heritage or to leave it behind. In "The Story of Young Ali" a teenage girl resists her beloved father's traditional tales of honor and self sacrifice. The matriarch of "House Calls," on the other hand, is so wedded to the past that she returns from the grave to harangue her Americanized family. In "Oh, Lebanon," a young woman who has fled Lebanon's civil war and refuses to cover her hair with a scarf finds that turning her back on her past leads her in unexpected directions. With agile humor and emotional truth, Shakir offers multiple perspectives on the experience of Lebanese women in the United States. Her stories dismantle stereotypes and remind us that women of Lebanese background have been a part of the American narrative for over a century. |

Lebanon : 0738535737
$19.99 Historic Lebanon is best known for its role in the Revolutionary War. |
