Age of Exploration
Wednesday, October 7th, 2009How did innovation and reform in Renaissance, Reformation and Exploration age change life in Europe?
Thankyou for helping me answerr this question. This is for a project at school. If you can give me information on the Renaissance, Reformation, and the age of exploration that would really help. Also, how has this renaissance change Europe into a new era?? Thankyou soooo much for helping!
during the Middle Ages, the common theme / topic / whatever was based on religion, especially Christianity. Renaissance / Reformation / Exploration age [when they were all contemporaries] changed life in Europe, because it led to new ideas and stuff … it was not all religion anymore. they concentrated more humanism. it was a complete transformation, which began the modern era and has led us to where we are now. hope this helps: D

Inside was a precious little globe, issued by Ferguson of London in 1756. The inside of the case was covered wit... |

With over 350 entries by 131 scholars, this work includes figures like Amerigo Vespucci, Ferdinand Magellan, Hernando Cortes, Queen Isabel, and King Fernando of Spain; topics like navigation instruments, creolization, the mixing of races and cultures, diseases caught aboard ship and in the New World; and controversial issues such as invasion, conquest, and enslavement. Featuring over 400 illustrations and maps as well as useful bibliographies, this authoritative encyclopedia brings to life an important period of history--of expansion, invention, and diplomacy--that forever changed the European perception of the world./Div |

The Ottoman Age of Exploration
$30.87 In 1517, the Ottoman Sultan Selim the Grim conquered Egypt and brought his empire for the first time in history into direct contact with the trading world of the Indian Ocean. During the decades that followed, the Ottomans became progressively more engaged in the affairs of this vast and previously unfamiliar region, eventually to the point of launching a systematic ideological, military and commercial challenge to the Portuguese Empire, their main rival for control of the lucrative trade routes of maritime Asia.brThe Ottoman Age of Exploration is the first comprehensive historical account of this century-long struggle for global dominance, a struggle that raged from the shores of the Mediterranean to the Straits of Malacca, and from the interior of Africa to the steppes of Central Asia. Based on extensive research in the archives of Turkey and Portugal, as well as materials written on three continents and in a half dozen languages, it presents an unprecedented picture of the global reach of the Ottoman state during the sixteenth century. It does so through a dramatic recounting of the lives of sultans and viziers, spies, corsairs, soldiers-of-fortune, and women from the imperial harem. Challenging traditional narratives of Western dominance, it argues that the Ottomans were not only active participants in the Age of Exploration, but ultimately bested the Portuguese in the game of global politics by using sea power, dynastic prestige, and commercial savoir faire to create their own imperial dominion throughout the Indian Ocean. |

Navigation in Exploration
$56.48 In the15th century, mariners established their location using "dead reckoning," a technique that used superstition, experience, and some guesswork to determine the position of a ship at sea. Ships, cargos, and lives by the thousands were lost because of inadequate navigation techniques and instruments. This study focuses on two pivotal, simultaneous revolutions in the Age of Exploration. First, navigators had to move away from experience-only to extensive scientific training. Second, navigation instruments were invented, developed, and/or refined to provide accurate readings capable of providing useful global positioning information. These factors combined to produce an explosion of exploration that took mariners to the far corners of the planet, impacting governments and geosciences, astronomy and academics. To understand this revolution better, we take a closer look at navigation during the 1686 LaSalle expedition to Texas, particularly a unique nocturnal/planisphere, one of only four in existence worldwide and so accurate it can still be used today. The book is for those with an interest in navigation, scientific instruments, astronomy, and archaeology. |

Follow the timeline of history unfolding; how the early colonies were established; how dissemination of products like the potato, tomato, tobacco, and corn made the Americas a major part of the new world economy; and how the Caribbean became a major trading hub. This splendid, exciting, beautifully illustrated account of the Age of Exploration relates events so dramatic that they would have been dismissed as implausible fiction if they hadn't actually happened. Don't think of this as Ôjust' a book for kids: chil?ô |

Robotic Exploration of the Solar System, Part 1: The Golden Age 1957-1
$34 From the reviews:pThis book a ] presents the accomplishments of robotic exploration of the major planets and their moons from Mercury to Neptune. Ulivi and Harland do a splendid job describing observations made using these a ] a ~robotsa (TM) to take pictures and explore the infrared and radio emissions, aurora, magnetic fields, and magnetospheres of these planets, their satellites, and the interplanetary medium. a ] More than 46 pages of references, further readings, excellent photographs and extensive illustrations, full author list, 6-page glossary, and 10-page index. Summing Up: Recommended. All levels. (W. E. Howard, CHOICE, Vol. 45 (8), 2008)pRobotic Exploration of the Solar System would address events that had happened over the period from 1957 up to the present day. a ] this is a fantastic book a there is much in it that I, as a devotee of the subject for longer than either of the authors, can draw from it. It really is encyclopaedic in its coverage and is a wonderful work for old timers a ] and for students, new to the field, to consult to get up to speed. (Colin Pillinger, The Observatory, Vol. 128 (1203), 2008)pThe best book I read so far on space exploration. ...The combination of Harland the historian, and Ulivi the astronomer ... make this an outstanding contribution. First, this book describes the state of the knowledge of the solar system just before space exploration begins. Second, this book is comprehensive, in that it includes US, European and Soviet/Russian contributions. ... An excellent basis for those who are looking for a global view of this part of the history of science. (Patrick Haubrechts, amazon.com)brppPaolo Ulivi and David Harland provide in Robotic Exploration of the Solar System a detailed history of unmanned missions of exploration of our Solar System. As in their previous book Lunar Exploration, the subject will be treated wherever possible from an engineering and scientific standpoint. Technical descriptions of@A |

Vanguard of Empire: Ships of Exploration in the Age of Columbus
$149.34 In this book, Smith has assembled a portrait of the small vessels invented and refined in the shipyards of Spain and Portugal half a millennium ago. He focuses on the advances in maritime technology that made the European conquest of the New World possible. Shipwrights worked by trial and error to make ships that would travel faster and farther, carrying larger and larger cargoes. Pilots developed new methods of celestial navigation and learned the patterns of wind and sea currents. Long voyages taxed the physical and emotional well-being of the crew, requiring new methods of supply and sustenance. In addition to covering these developments, Smith's book shows how ships were built, outfitted, and manned, illustrating what life at sea was like in the late fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Focusing on the advances in maritime technology that made European expansion possible, this book will shed light on a neglected aspect of the European conquest of the New World.br |

A History of Space Exploration
$19.48 The launch of the first rocket in 1926 led to the development of the first long-range missile - the A4, renamed V2 - fired in anger during the Second World War. The technology had advanced by 1957, to enable the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) to be developed. This missile formed the basis of the first launch vehicle to carry a satellite, Sputnik 1, into orbit, marking the beginning of the Space Age. Since then the Moon, all the planets in the solar system except Pluto, and an asteroid and a comet have been explored by spacecraft. Since the Space Age began, twelve men have walked on the Moon, and over 400 people have experienced space travel. Satellites now provide the world with a range of services from environmental monitoring to mobile phone calls. Space station operations have become routine. The Hubble Space Telescope has enabled astronomers to peer 12 billion years into the past and to take their first look at a black hole. What else will be achieved in the coming decades, as space exploration takes on a new momentum? |

Folk Music: A Regional Exploration
$77.03 Explores folk music and the ways in which it has evolved in different regions of the United States.Folk Music: A Regional Exploration covers all aspects of American folk traditions, from differing styles ranging from blues ballads to hollers and erotic songs, to instruments, regional differences in folk music, and the evolution of songs. A thorough exploration of major and minor genres and sub-genres keeps Folk Music an in-depth study worthy of college-level classroom attention for any American music history course.-MBR BookwatchAiming to present an overview of the field of American folk music that stresses breadth rather than depth, Cohen offers considerable information not easily found elsewhere, particularly about the differences in musical traditions of various regions and ethnic groups. In so doing he contributes significantly to the discussion Kip Lornell began....Highly recommended. All collections; all levels.-ChoiceCohen (Portland Community College) introduces this overview of American folk music by discussing regional differences, the influence of immigration and migration, and the folk song's origins, function, and meaning within the community.-Reference & Research Book NewsCohen introduces this overview of American folk music by discussing regional differences, the influence of immigration and migration, and the folk song's origins, function, and meaning within the community.-Reference & Research Book NewsCohen is a deft folklorist who knows the traditional academic literature, but he is also most interested in such commercial products assongsters, sheet music, and recordings, all products of the industrial age, with which folklorists might quibble. He has always made a strong case for connecting the past and the present as part of the country's folk music legacy, and his current exploration is a mature defense of this approach.
