Panzer 44

WW2 – Has German Panzer divisions (Western Front / Ardennes) repaint their tanks in the winter?

I have been able to find any solid information on the subject. I have read that they were painted white to gray in December '44, but they were not painted, but covered in makeshift camo from white to gray dew, mud and branches. All information is provided, including any links to pictures or book recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Winter Camouflage existed as a link below documents; whitewash was a recommended measure, which was way out as snow and sheets themselves. American tanks used snow and Tarps for coverage, and some troops were white smocks to cover their uniforms. Photographs are unreliable for several reasons – lighting, contrast, type of film, the condition of the photo / film, etc.
