Attila: Scourge o’ God
Choosing the Perfect Name for Baby
Congratulations on a new baby in your life! Allow me to share 10 major considerations involved in choosing a perfect name:
A) Sex. A first consideration is the child's sex. Knowing this will considerably narrow the field. Make sure your choice is gender-appropriate. Select not a girl's name for a boy or vice versa.
2) Ancestry. Including the name of an ancestor or loved relative is a noble consideration. What were the names of your grandparents? Perhaps these would make suitable middle names. It shows family pride, tradition and heritage.
3) Help. Use good baby name sites or books. An example is: Pregnant for Sure! "> Baby Names and meanings when you are pregnant. Originally collect more options then use guidelines resulting thin down the list. Give yourself every chance of success. Certainly, ending up with zero names on the list will not work and can leave you feeling defeated or disappointed. In-fact, you can keep two or three options on the list until the child is born to save the final selection for the special moment.
4) Significance. Be careful to select names with flattering meanings. Meaning considerations should include not only the literal translation, but historical as well. Avoid overly cute names. In Chinese culture, babies are sometimes given a "milk name" such as "Cutie" at birth, or two characters that sound cute when said together. These are not proper legal names. Remember, one day the child becomes an adult. In China, permanent names chosen within a month of birth, which is or has been period prior to registration. Refrain from using negative meanings. Desdemona is a Greek name for girls meaning "the devil", Fraco is a Spanish name for boys which means "weak", and Alda is a German name for girls meaning "old". Instead collect settings, means sweet, strong, graceful, or nobles. Literal translation should include different languages. Muette may sound like a pretty name for a girl, but it means "stupid man" in French. Consider how name could be shortened or used to form profane rhymes or nicknames such as "Farty artistic", etc. On the other hand, predict nicknames you like such as Stephen as Steve. And finally be aware of meanings formed of the letters also. For example, Daniel Otto Griffin (DOG) or Angela Paige Eade (APE) can not be the best choice.
5) Association. Are religious beliefs important to your family? Names of Saints may be desirable. Past presidents leaders or prominent historical figures could be attractive. Research the names to ensure no derogatory meaning. Unfortunately, otherwise acceptable names such as Adolph or Attila fall into this category. Attila and the "scourge of God" has at times been considered synonyms.
6) Experience. Life is in constant change, but there is no reason to choose a name that conjures up painful memories of places, experiences or past relationships.
7) Continuity. How baby's name fit with the rest of the family? Fathers sometimes wish to name their first son after himself. How does the name sound when spoken or written in a Christmas card with the child's brothers and sisters?
Pronunciation. The full name should flow well through the first, middle and last. Think over whether it is easy to say and spell. Say their full name high several times to feel and hear it yourself. Ask if it's easily confused with a different name. Kirsten is often misspoken as Kristen. Do you want your daughter to correct people all his life?
9) Popularity. The key is whether the husband and wife as their child's name. Compromise is recommended during these negotiations. Let selecting your baby's name be a positive experience to maximize satisfaction of both parents, although both are not get everything they want. Next comes advice from grandparents and family. So friends. Remember, popularity changes over time. Avoid selecting names based on the latest fad or trend.
10) uniformity. The baby's name is common or unusual is a personal decision, but a factor worth to consider. Names that are too unusual to cause teasing from other children. On the other hand, enforces a less common name of the specific distinction between their unique nature.
Again, congratulations and I hope that the given advice has helped facilitate this important decision.

O $9.56 Rated: R Synopsis: An audacious updating of Shakespeare’s Othello, this well-acted drama hews closely to the Bard’s themes while giving them a decidedly contemporary edge. Mekhi Phifer portrays Odin “O” Jones, the star basketball player and only African-American student at an elite private school, where he enjoys the respect of fellow classmates and the affection of the dean’s daughter, Desi (Julia Stiles). Hugo Goulding (Josh Hartnett), ostensibly O’s best friend, secretly envies him and plots to undermine him. Director Tim Blake Nelson (Kansas) uses high school sports as a metaphor for battle, in place of the bloody war Shakespeare employs as a background for the conflicts in Othello. Like the original work, this film vividly and tragically illustrates the corrosive effect of envy on a man’s soul. Made in 1998 but held back because of several high-profile outbreaks of school violence, O demonstrates just how timeless Shakespeare’s fundamental themes remain. Stiles, who joins Nelson on the DVD commentary track, proves as nimble here as in an earlier Shakespearean update, her turn as Katarina in 10 Things I Hate About You — an equally deft 1999 modernization of The Taming of the Shrew. A modernized retelling of William Shakespeare’s Othello, O changes its setting to an elite private school in the American South. Odin (Mekhi Phifer) is the only black student at Palmetto Grove and also the star basketball player, with hopes of reaching the NBA. A popular student, he is dating Desi Brable (Julia Stiles), the daughter of the school’s dean (John Heard), and they are deeply devoted to each other despite their different backgrounds. His best friend Hugo (Josh Hartnett) is a starter on the basketball team, and the son of the hard-driving coach Duke Goulding (Martin Sheen), who considers Odin as much his son as Hugo. Hugo is jealous of Odin’s widespread popularity, so he hatches a scheme to ruin Odin’s reputation with the help of Roger (Elden Henson), his rich roommate who will do anything to be popular and get Desi’s attention. Through carefully planned revenge, he begins to make Odin believe that Desi is carrying out an affair with teammate Michael (Andrew Keegan). As Odin begins to receive merely coincidental signs to prove it, he begins to slowly lose his grounding and turns to Hugo for help, not knowing that he is being set up. As the basketball season comes to a close, Odin’s jealousy begins to consume him, resulting in the loss of everything he cares about the most. O was sometime actor Tim Blake Nelson’s directorial follow-up to his well-received debut Eye of God. Jason ClarkEntertainment WeeklyTo an astonishing degree, O gets the tragic Shakespeare mood, that somber stentorian passion born of hidden slivers of ambition and betrayal. Owen Gleiberman Chicago Sun-Times A good film for most of the way, and then a powerful film at the end. Bless Us, O God $9.98 Dorothy France provides beautiful prayers and services to help us celebrate special days of the church year and focus on our Christ-given mission to be his light in the world. From the earliest history of the Christian church, believers have set aside time for holy days, special observances to commemorate Jesus’ birth, death, resurrection, teachings, and ministry. France says that anticipating and observing special days with hopeful expectancy can revitalize our commitment to follow Jesus’ command to go forth and serve. In Bless Us, O God, prayers and services for traditional holy days such as Advent, Ash Wednesday, and Easter are joined by suggestions for more modern special days, such as Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Reconciliation Mission Sunday, and Earth Stewardship Sunday. Pastors will find selections for events such as baptisms and leadership installations. |

God-ol-o-gy: Because Knowing God Changes Everything $13.99 “”There’s nothing worse than catatonic Christians standing still in a world of falling people.” “Godology” is for those who crave to know more about God and why it matters. Think “Knowing God” meets “Celebration of Discipline,” For twenty-somethings. In each chapter, George discloses a biblical reality about the nature of God, a spiritual discipline that connects us to Him, and a practical way to express our faith. Using humorous experiences and honest reflections, George grapples with real life issues like purpose, despair, triumph, and tragedy. > In an age when thinking about God can be academic and abstract, George invites you to know God. But be warned, it will change everything.” |

Norma Jean (Metal) – O God, The Aftermath [Limited] * $16.13 Norma Jean (Rock): Chris, Daniel, Jake, Scottie, Cory.Three years and one lead-singer change after its debut album, Christian metal band Norma Jean returned with O GOD, THE AFTERMATH, a pile-driving slice of boundary-pushing heaviness that finds the Atlanta, Georgia combo`s talents undiminished. Replacement throat-shredder Cory Brandon`s guttural growls are deeper and even more intense than those of his predecessor, Joshua Scogin. In addition, the new guy adds a welcome bit of melodic singing to the mix. The time between records also seems to have been spent expanding the group`s instrumental palette, as many songs feature a more experimental edge. While BLESS THE MARTYR AND KISS THE CHILD`s Metallica/Pantera-style speed riffs are maintained (particularly on "Absentimental"), the band finds an increased taste for dissonance and complicated polyrhythms, as evidenced by the jagged start/stops on "Dilemmachine" and the strident lead guitar tritones of "Pretendeavor." A gut-wrenching album by any measure, O GOD, THE AFTERMATH shows that faith can be expressed in a myriad of challenging ways. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only.
