Age of Exploration

How did innovation and reform in Renaissance, Reformation and Exploration age change life in Europe?

Thankyou for helping me answerr this question. This is for a project at school. If you can give me information on the Renaissance, Reformation, and the age of exploration that would really help. Also, how has this renaissance change Europe into a new era?? Thankyou soooo much for helping!

during the Middle Ages, the common theme / topic / whatever was based on religion, especially Christianity. Renaissance / Reformation / Exploration age [when they were all contemporaries] changed life in Europe, because it led to new ideas and stuff … it was not all religion anymore. they concentrated more humanism. it was a complete transformation, which began the modern era and has led us to where we are now. hope this helps: D

The Ottoman Age of Exploration (Hardcover)

In the year 1517, the Ottoman Sultan Selim "the Grim" conquered Egypt and brought his empire for the first time in history into direct contact with the trading world of the Indian Ocean. During the decades that followed, the Ottomans became progressively more engaged in the affairs of this vast and previously unfamiliar region, eventually to the point of launching a systematic ideological, military and commercial challenge to the Portuguese Empire, their main rival for control of the lucrative trade routes of maritime Asia. The Ottoman Age of Exploration is the first comprehensive historical account of this century-long struggle for global dominance, a struggle that raged from the shores of the Mediterranean to the Straits of Malacca, and from the interior of Africa to the steppes of Central Asia. Based on extensive research in the archives of both Turkey and Portugal, as well as supporting materials written on three continents and in a half dozen languages, it presents an unprecedented picture of the global reach of the Ottoman state during the sixteenth century. Challenging traditional narratives of Western dominance, it argues that the Ottomans were not only active participants in the Age of Exploration, but ultimately bested the Portuguese in the game of global politics by using sea power, dynastic prestige, and commercial savoir faire to create their own imperial dominion throughout the Indian Ocean.

Space Exploration

Space Exploration

Humans have explored Earth, its Moon, and its atmosphere, but people have traveled hardly any distance into space. The vast distances between stars and galaxies mean that scientists on Earth study most of the universe from far away. Exploring space offers its own unique challenges and rewards. This book examines the politics of spacethe space race, weapons in space, and international cooperation, the realities of living in space, the uses of satellites and space probes, space age technologies that changed life on Earth, the future of space exploration, from space tourism to space elevators. This book goes beyond the science to explore the pros and cons of each new development, and examines the ways in which space exploration has changed our society and the world.

Navigation in Exploration

Navigation in Exploration

$56.48

In the15th century, mariners established their location using "dead reckoning," a technique that used superstition, experience, and some guesswork to determine the position of a ship at sea. Ships, cargos, and lives by the thousands were lost because of inadequate navigation techniques and instruments. This study focuses on two pivotal, simultaneous revolutions in the Age of Exploration. First, navigators had to move away from experience-only to extensive scientific training. Second, navigation instruments were invented, developed, and/or refined to provide accurate readings capable of providing useful global positioning information. These factors combined to produce an explosion of exploration that took mariners to the far corners of the planet, impacting governments and geosciences, astronomy and academics. To understand this revolution better, we take a closer look at navigation during the 1686 LaSalle expedition to Texas, particularly a unique nocturnal/planisphere, one of only four in existence worldwide and so accurate it can still be used today. The book is for those with an interest in navigation, scientific instruments, astronomy, and archaeology.

New Spaces of Exploration (Paperback)

$34.16

For many the dawn of the twentieth century ushered in an era where the world map had few if any blank spaces left to discover. The age of exploration was supposedly dead. New Spaces of Exploration challenges this assumption. Focusing specifically on exploration in the twentieth century, the authors demonstrate how new technologies and changing geopolitical configurations have ensured that exploration has remained a key feature of our rapidly globalizing world. Ranging widely in their geographical focus — from the Europe and Asia to Australia, and from the polar regions to outer space — they demonstrate the increasing diversity of modern exploration and reveal the continuing political, military, industrial and cultural motivations at play. The result is a major contribution to our understanding of the significance of exploration in the twentieth century.

A History of Space Exploration

A History of Space Exploration

$19.48

The launch of the first rocket in 1926 led to the development of the first long-range missile – the A4, renamed V2 – fired in anger during the Second World War. The technology had advanced by 1957, to enable the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) to be developed. This missile formed the basis of the first launch vehicle to carry a satellite, Sputnik 1, into orbit, marking the beginning of the Space Age. Since then the Moon, all the planets in the solar system except Pluto, and an asteroid and a comet have been explored by spacecraft. Since the Space Age began, twelve men have walked on the Moon, and over 400 people have experienced space travel. Satellites now provide the world with a range of services from environmental monitoring to mobile phone calls. Space station operations have become routine. The Hubble Space Telescope has enabled astronomers to peer 12 billion years into the past and to take their first look at a black hole. What else will be achieved in the coming decades, as space exploration takes on a new momentum?

Cultural Contact and the Making of European Art Since the Age of Exploration (Hardcover)

Cultural Contact and the Making of European Art Since the Age of Exploration (Hardcover)

$31.34

"This groundbreaking book allows the reader to appreciate the complexity and variety of cultural contacts that have shaped not only European art, but also the very idea of Europe." David O` Brien, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign."The questions that are engaged in this volume have profound implications for all forms of cultural production and will help transform how we think about and understand art made in Europe and elsewhere. A masterfully conceived and organized collection." Melessa Hyde, University of FloridaArt historians have long been accustomed to thinking about art and artists in terms of national traditions, and many general histories, textbooks, and museums of European art are organized around this notion. This volume takes a different approach, suggesting that organization based on national divisions often obscures the processes of cultural appropriation and global exchange that shaped the visual arts in Europe in fundamental ways between 1492 and the early twentieth century.Essays in Cultural Contact and the Making of European Art since the Age of Exploration analyze distinct zones of contact—between various European states, between Asia and Europe, or between Europe and so-called primitive cultures in Africa, the Americas, and the South Pacific—focusing mainly but not exclusively on painting, drawing, or the decorative arts. Each case foregrounds the centrality of international borrowings and counters conceptions of European art as a "pure" tradition uninfluenced by the artistic forms of other cultures. The contributors analyze the social, cultural, commercial, and political conditions—including tourism, colonialism, religious pilgrimage, trade missions, and scientific voyages—that enabled these exchanges well before the modern age of globalization. The contributors are Claire Farago, Elisabeth A. Fraser, Julie Hochstrasser, Christopher M. S. Johns, Carol Mavor, Mary D. Sheriff, and Lyneise E. Williams.
